Control your Linux PC with your phone
RPad for Linux turns your iPhone, iPad or Android phone or tablet into a trackpad, keyboard and presentation remote for your Linux PC. It is a beta, and it is sold separately from the phone apps.
Start RPad on your PC and it waits in the tray or its own window. Open RPad on your iPhone, iPad or Android device, tap your PC, enter the 6-digit code once — and your phone is a trackpad and keyboard for Linux, end-to-end encrypted on your own Wi‑Fi. No account, no cloud.
On the phone or tablet, get RPad from the App Store or Google Play:
Download
Everything works free for 7 days; after that an RPad for PC licence key unlocks it for good.
If the download sends you back here, it is being updated — try again in a minute.
Install
- AppImage (any distribution): make the file executable and run it:
chmod +x RPad-x86_64.AppImage, then./RPad-x86_64.AppImage. Keep it in one place, such as~/Applications. - .deb (Debian, Ubuntu and derivatives):
sudo apt install ./rpad_amd64.deb, then start RPad from the app menu.
X11 and Wayland
- X11: works right away, nothing to allow.
- Wayland: GNOME 46 or later and KDE Plasma 6.1 or later. The desktop asks once to allow remote control ("Allow remote interaction"); RPad remembers the answer, so later logins don't ask again.
Firewall
RPad listens on TCP port 52731 and is found through mDNS (UDP 5353). If your phone doesn't see the PC, allow them in the firewall:
- Ubuntu (ufw):
sudo ufw allow 52731/tcpandsudo ufw allow 5353/udp - Fedora (firewalld):
sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --add-port=52731/tcp,sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --add-service=mdnsandsudo firewall-cmd --reload
Or tap Connect by IP Address… on the phone and enter the address shown in the RPad window.
Buy RPad for PC
US$9.99 once, per person. One RPad for PC licence works on Windows and Linux: use it on every PC you own. No subscription.
You get the key on the page after paying and by e-mail. In RPad on the PC: open the RPad window and paste it in the Licence field. Keys are verified on your PC; nothing is sent anywhere. Prices include VAT where it applies; Stripe handles the payment, we never see your card.
What works in the beta
- Full-screen trackpad with acceleration, momentum scrolling, tap-and-drag and right-click
- Keyboard with your PC's layout, shortcuts (⌘ maps to Ctrl), media and volume keys
- Present mode and the Apple Watch remote for slides
- Lock, sleep, restart, shut down or log out; open and quit apps from the phone
- Tray icon where the desktop has one, and a window with everything on GNOME
- Connect-back for PCs whose firewall blocks incoming connections
Not yet in the beta: Apple Pencil pressure, and Screen mode (seeing the PC's display on the phone).
System requirements
- A 64-bit Linux PC (x86_64 or ARM64) with glibc 2.35 or later: for example Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 38 or later
- An X11 session, or Wayland with GNOME 46 or later or KDE Plasma 6.1 or later
- An iPhone or iPad with iOS 17 or later, or an Android phone or tablet with Android 8.0 or later, on the same Wi‑Fi

Does the Apple or Google Play purchase include Linux? No. RPad for PC is a separate one-time purchase, and it doesn't include the phone app.
